Week 8 Discussion: Reflection on End of Life En
Solution
What were your observations related to this experience?
I once provided end-of-life care for an 77-year-old female patient with dementia and stroke. The patient had the typical orders that are in place when in hospice, as well as typical patient concerns in regard to comfort. Pain control, control of respirations and secretions, repositioning for comfort, and good oral care were all important measures. Her daughter was with her most of the time and it was taking a toll on her, she seemed to be tired physically and emotionally.
Do you believe it was a peaceful death?
Yes, I believe her death was peaceful. Her pain and respirations were controlled with morphine. She seemed to be aware of her daughter at her bedside. She seemed to be comfortable most of the time until the end.
