Description
Professor and Class,
Data set for this discussion is;
The article reviews the relationship between adult obesity and Diabetes mellitus type 2.
Data set
Weight | % of adults with Diabetes mellitus type 2 in 2009 |
BMI 22-healthy | 10 |
BM1 27-overweight | 27 |
BMI 32-Obese | 63 |
From the above data set, the dependent variable is Diabetes mellitus type 2 whilst the independent variable is adult obesity. Even without plotting a scatter plot, a positive correlation between the dependent and independent variables can be expected. This is due to the fact that obesity, a medical condition that involves having excess body fat increases the risk of an individual becoming diabetic. As the data set above shows, there is a strong correlation between an increase in weight (from BMI 22 to BMI 32) and an increase in the chances of getting diabetes. In other words, the data set shows that individuals who are obese are more likely to be diabetic. Additionally, from the data set above, the r2 implies that the data selected can be used in a regression line. Using the regression equation ŷ = 5.3X – 109.7, it can be deduced that the higher the weight, the high the number of diabetic cases.
